ANNUAL MEETING
Friday, October 12, 1990 Brussels
One hundred and eighty four people
sat down to a delicious roast beef dinner
catered by the Brussels/Morris/Grey
ladies group. A toast to the Queen and
Canada was made by first vice president
Brenda McIntosh; grace was said by
Ralph Scott. Head table guests were
introduced by second vice president
Bob Harrison, as well as other guests:
MP Murray Cardiff & his wife Betty,
Paul and Heather Klopp, Jack and Anita
Riddell, Lionel Wilder and his wife, our
new agriculture representative Bob
Humphries and his wife Norma, five
township reeves and three surrounding
county federation presidents.
Pat Down, Bill Wallace, and Larry
Plaetzer were appointed as the Resolu-
tion Committee for the evening. After
the meal the ladies were thanked by
Brenda McIntosh. President Chris
Palmer spoke briefly; he congratulated
our MPP Paul Klopp, welcomed Bob
Humphries to Huron County and com-
mended Tony McQuail on his new posi-
tion with the Minister of Agriculture.
Chris also presented a gift to secretary
Carol Finch for her assistance during his
years as president of HCFA. The elec-
tion was held for president. Nominees
were: Bob Harrison, Brenda McIntosh,
and Chris Palmer. Brenda McIntosh is
our new president. She presented Chris
with an OFA past president pin and
Chris passed his president pin to her.
Last year's minutes were passed as
printed in the Survey on a motion by
Bob Harrison, seconded by Larry Plaet-
zer. Carried.
Guest speaker Cathy McKinley
from McKinley Hatcheries was intro-
duced by Bob Down, and thanked by
Heinz Claus. Cathy spoke on the
GATT.
Elections were held for first vice
president of HCFA. Nominees were:
Bill Wallace, Bob Harrison, Keith Wil-
liamson, and Ken Scott. Ken Scott of
McKillop Township was elected.
Blaine Stephenson gave his
fieldman's report. He talked of interest-
ing people and situations he had encoun-
tered on different membership drives in
other counties. He congratulated
Brenda on her new position as president.
Election of second vice president
was held. Nominees were: Keith Wil-
liamson, Bill Wallace, Bob Harrison,
John Gaunt, James Armstrong, Leonard
Jamieson, and Jim McIntosh. All but
Keith and Bill declined. An election
was held and Bill Wallace is our new
second vice president of HCFA. Motion
by Bob Harrison, seconded by Jeanne
Kirkby to destroy the ballots. Carried.
The financial statement was passed
as printed on a motion by Larry Plaetzer,
and seconded by Walter Elliott. Steve
Thompson was appointed auditor for
next year.
The Huron County Award was pre-
sented by Bob Harrison to Bill and
Marybeth Mann (formerly of Grey
Township). Bill was very active in the
HCFA in the late 60s and 70s as well as
other farm groups in connection with
dairy farming. Bill died in May 1986 of
ALS. Marybeth and her daughters,
Tracey and Kendra (all of Kitchener
now), accepted the award. Marybeth
thanked Huron County Federation for
the thoughts, the award, and invitation
to attend to receive this honour.
A surprise skit appeared out of
nowhere depicting the scene from the
recent all -candidates' meeting held by
HCFA. The actors were MC Doug
Garniss, John Underwood, Jeanne
Kirkby, Brian & Bev Jeffray, and
Shirley Garniss. Heather Klopp was
portrayed by Jack Stafford.
OFA executive member Bill
Weaver, from Kent County, brought
greetings from the OFA executive.
Election was held for six (6) direc-
tors -at -large. Several names were
nominated. After many declines there
were eight names remaining. On a mo-
tion by Bill Wallace, seconded by Steve
Thompson that we expand our direc-
tors -at -large from 6 to 8 for this year.
Motion carried. The 8 directors are:
Kirk Hussey, Tom Hayter, Bob Hem,
John Gaunt, Larry Plaetzer, Bob Harri-
son, Shirley Hazlitt, and Ralph Scott.
There were no resolutions presented
at the meeting. Thank you to the com-
mittee for their offer to assist (Pat, Larry
& Bill).
Throughout the evening, door prizes
were drawn. Winners were Bob
Humphries, Cora Alcock, and Teresa
VanRaay. The draws were donated by
McGavin's of Walton and Hensall Co-
op (Thanks).
Tony McQuail, an aide to the new
Minister of Agriculture, invited anyone
wanting any help with information on
GATT or wishing to send letters or
information to any friend or relative in
another country to feel free to contact
him. Adjournment: 11:15 pm.0
