SULTRY ADS BOOST
BUTTER SALES
A sultry television ad campaign fea-
turing a butter -covered knife dancing
sensuously to a lambada tune with a
slice of bread is credited with boosting
butter sales in Ontario by 10 per cent.
The ad, one in a series of TV spots
that also feature the buttery knife danc-
ing with sexy -looking vegetables, is part
of a $6 -million TV campaign by the
Dairy Bureau of Canada to counteract
negative attitudes about butter. The in-
novative ads seem to be having a direct
impact on sales.
Retail butter sales in July, a little
more than a month after the campaign
began, shot up by nearly 10 per cent in
Ontario compared with the same month
a year earlier.°
FARM TAX REBATE
ON THE WAY
More than 160,000 applications for
the 1990 Farm Tax Rebate Program
have now been sent out to owners of
farm property by the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food.
An additional 5,000 applications
will be delivered as soon as appropriate
mill rate information is received.
The Farm Tax Rebate Program will
provide approximately $151.0 million
in municipal tax rebates to eligible
owners of farm properties in agricul-
tural production in the province.
The program rebates a portion of
property taxes on farmland and out-
buildings because agriculture is land
intensive.
To be eligible for this year's 75 per
cent rebate, farm property must be used
as part of a farming operation with a
gross production value of at least $7,000
in 1990.
Property owners can expect to re-
ceive rebate cheques six to eight weeks
after applications are returned to
OMAF.
In the event of a mail strike, those
who have not received applications
should call 416-326-9900. As well,
completed application forms can be
dropped off at OMAF's county agricul-
tural offices.°
