LIMOUSIN CLUB
INVITES MEMBERS
The Ontario Junior Limousin Asso-
ciation (OJLA) is looking for members
who meet the age criteria of being under
21.
Becky Ackert, OJLA president, says
the club members meet three times a
year to show their Limousin heifers.
"The OJLA makes its own money and
runs its own shows, although we have a
long list of supporters who are highly
appreciated," she says.
Ackert notes that the OJLA is not
connected with 4-H, but many of its
members are 4-H members as well.
"We feel ow- association opens up a
future for 4-H people showing Li-
mousin heifers because it enables them
to take their calf out to more shows, gain
a wider knowledge of fitting and show-
manship techniques, and meet new
people."
Limousins, she adds, are becoming
well-known in the beef industry — the
breed came from France to North Amer-
ica in 1968, bringing with it a reputation
for gaining lean meat on less feed.
The club, Ackert says, shows year-
ling heifers as well as 1990 calves, and
there are showmanship classes for all
ages.

CANADIAN FARMS
ON SOVIET TV
The Canadian family farm is going
to be in pictures — not in Hollywood,
but on television screens in the Soviet
Union.
A one-hour co -production, called
Where is Archimedes Lever, will focus
on the Canadian family farm and its
productivity as an alternative to the
Soviet -style collective farm.
The film, which began shooting this
summer, will be co -directed by Cana-
dian Bernard Lavigne and Soviet Gre-
gory Chcrtov. It is a follow-up to Cher-
tov's film Responsible for Everything, a
lament about Soviet agriculture which
ended with a sequence showing Cana-
dian farms.0
