CONSERVATION AWARDS IN HURON COUNTY
(Above) Peter and Norma Oldridge accept a Conservation Award Certificate from
Norman Haid of the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) in Huron
County last month. The Oldridges — their son Brian also received the award — have
made many improvements to their 1,060 -acre farm in Morris Township. They have
adopted conservation tillage practices, established buffer strips, implemented cover -
crop techniques, and used crop rotation. Wetland areas on the property have been
preserved, windbreaks planted, and chemical fertilizers reduced. The Oldridges
received the Norman Alexander Conservation Award in 1989.
(Below) Jack Graul, shown with MVCA chairman Bruce McCall, receives the Con-
servation Award of Distinction for his leadership and initiative as a long-time
director on the MVCA. Graul and his wife Helen farm in Ellice Township.
