sales of tractors, for example, dropped
from 30,000 units in 1980 to 16,000 in
1989, a 46 per cent decrease in 9 years.
In response to this trend, Yapp says
it's time for a return to marketing basics.
"Too much focus has been put on sales
packages, financial arrangements and
window wrapping of that sort. We've
got to get back to the business of market-
ing and selling products, not programs."
Despite the thinning farm market,
Yapp praises Canada's efficient agri-
culture. "Canadians are spending less
money each year to grow more food to
feed more people. That's not great news
if you're in the business of selling trac-
tors or corn seed or milking equidment,
but for the country overall, it's a pretty
good thing."
CAMA's Toronto chapter has 220
active members from more than 50 cor-
porations. Yapp is vice-president of
Kubota Canada in Markham, Ontario.0
PROTECTION FROM
CHEMICAL SPRAYS
The Beco tractor cab not only pro-
tects farmers from chemical sprays, but
can be used with a heating or air-condi-
tioning unit.
The cab features a two -speed blower
with an air movement capacity of more
than 700 cubic feet a minute. It changes
the air inside the cab at a rate of more
than 15 times a minute.
Beco's dual filtration system, with
its heavy charcoal filter and a dust prefil-
ter, provides the operator with maxi-
mum protection from the harmful ef-
fects of chemical sprays.
