The Rural Voice, 2006-12, Page 49Home Decorating Making hour home special for Christmas Patti Robertson operates Classic Interiors in Wingham. By Patti Robertson Fabulous, fanciful, and fun is the best description for the way in which this young couple dresses their townhouse for the festive season. Their walkway is lined with oversized candy canes and the borderline fence decked out with cedar boughs dripping with lights ranging in tonal value from light pink, burgundy, fuchsia and crimson red. Tucked here and there throughout the garland are pairs of brightly coloured mittens. A real visual treat for eyes of all ages. A huge wreath adorns the entrance door, sporting a massive burgundy bow. - The door opens onto a lovely Persian carpet in varying wine tones. In the foyer there is an antique mirror that is draped with cedar garland highlighted with organza bows in shimmery white, tucked here and there are miniature elves all dressed in their winter finery. On top of the period -piece hall table is a demure Christmas tree decorated again with organza ribbon, bows and elves. Perfectly co-ordinated miniature gifts with beautiful tiny bows lay waiting under the tree. The hall stairway is aglow in clear mini -lights tucked into cedar garland also richly draped in organza ribbon and an array of metallic silver stars. Down the hallway one enters the living/dining room combo in tonal values of taupe, and dusty, powdery blues. A huge blue spruce is trimmed with both a warm' white and a cool white mini -light. Soft taupe -coloured raffia is entwined along every branch instead of tinsel for a one -of -a -kind look. A variety of Christmas balls in taupe, pale blue and chrome dangle from each branch. Snowmen and elves dressed in white winter finery frolic on the end and coffee tables". Moving into the dining room, we are treated to a most inviting setting as the table is dressed in a crisp white damask tablecloth. Huge silver hurricane lanterns are aglow with extra large column candles set down the length of the table, amongst which a jumbo white satin cording and white organza ribbon trail softly in casual curls. Each place -setting features a different unique antique crystal wine glass, one -of -a -kind flatware and beautiful, white china sporting a wide navy and silver banding. The shellback chairs have been treated to a festive collar made from antique damask tablecloths, which are embellished with crystal -beaded trim. On top of the buffet is a one -of -a - kind Christmas village. Some of the homes, trees and villagers are close to 100 years old, having been handed down from a great auntie. Here and there throughout the ground floor of the townhouse are arrays of garland incorporating mistletoe, so one has to beware if you are not in the mood for a Christmas smooch! As you enter the kitchen, your eye is immediately captured by the huge white pottery jug lavishly brimming with burgundy poinsettias, pine boughs and hydrangeas. Off to one side is a round accent table draped in floor -length velvet burgundy, on top of which sits a four -foot Christmas tree decorated with an array of faux fruit — cherries, apples, oranges, lemons, limes and tucked in here and there are wrapped pieces of saltwater taffy. How unique! Both bathroom vanities are aglov. with burgundy candles, while old Si Nick stands on guard offering a fingertip towel. Huge arrangements incorporating poinsettia, pine, cedar and juniper and clumps of faux grasses are positioned upon pedestak by the window. Up the stairway one is entertained by the lively and artful positioning of a family of teddy bears decked out to go tobogganing. Each bedroom doorknob sports a nosegay of minia- ture poinsettia, hydrangea and cedar all tied together with antique lace. My personal favourite is looking out into the backyard of this townhouse and seeing the six huge cedars all aglow in duo toned white mini -lights in front of which are positioned a family of six articulated reindeer, which appear to be grazing and foraging for food. How lovingly this home has been prepared for this much -awaited time of the year! I'm wishing you health, happiness and peace this holiday season. Patti's Tip: If you are tired of the colouration of your festive decorations, you can easily spray paint them. Hang a cord across your workspace and using ornament hangers string your ornaments along the cord. Now you can paint all side at once.0 PATTI ROBERTSON'S Unique Residential and Commercial Interiors 135 Victoria St., WINGHAM 357-2872 • Custom-made Window Fashions, Bedspreads & Accessories • Fine Domestic & Imported Fabrics • Select Wallcoverings • Furnishings, Lighting & Artwork to suit any interior...
