Thompson said. "There's a very
vocal few who are bringing up all of
the issues."
One of the main issues is tourism,
which is the second-highest
contributor to Huron County's •
economy, snowmobiling being a big
part of that tourism dollar.
"I expect that it will hurt the
snowmobile association. The weather
conditions
have not been
favourable to
snowmo-
bilers over the
last few
winters and I
expect that if
there's any
more hurdles,
that will just
be another
problem that
they'll have to
overcome,"
Mitchell said.
"It's just
another
attraction that has been taken off the
plate, and every little bit hurts."
The HCFA knows this and they
zeroed in on a hot button topic
intentionally. Thompson and
Hill cite problems with previous
protests as being too short as well as
Canadians taking an important issue
for granted; their food.
"The issue of recreation is clearly
more significant in the eyes of the
public than is the issue of food
production," Hill said.
"That really doesn't come as any
surprise to us. Food production is
taken for granted; we acknowledge
that. We can debate whether it's right
or wrong, but that's the reality, but
the fact is that recreation is a
sensitive issue. So it makes sense to
focus on a sensitive issue."
Only once the snow melts and
2007 comes around will the results of
this protest be known, but if nothing
is accomplished, the question of what •
the next step is, seems to be a lively
one, with many differing opinions.
