watch was 10 after 12. The morning
session was fast paced, well
organized, informal and pleasant.
Miles beyond my dim expectations.
The leaders responded to
questions with good common sense
answers, not governmental double
speak. No one in our group even
hinted that the workshop was a waste
of time. This was quite a pleasant
experience having been in many
groups where someone has all the
answers before any questions are
asked. .
/haven't taken a bag lunch to work
for quite some time and while it
wasn't a picnic in the park it
wasn't a bad experience. The
workshop leaders stayed with the
group and answered at least a dozen
individual questions. I don't think
either of them took time to eat during
the half-hour break.
The afternoon session began with
a video about water and wells. It
wasn't quite the afternoon soaps but
it was short and informative and
didn't have any commercials. This
video should be shown to every

workshop run by agricultural
organizations because Canadians are
now the number one wasters of water
in the world (yes, number one). After
'the video we worked for a couple of
hours on our Environmental Farm
Plan workbooks. Lois and Jacqui
gave lots of over -the -shoulder help
like good grade four teachers. Over
300 Huron County farmers have
voluntarily participated in these
workshops so far.
The afternoon ended with a
sermonette (shorter than most
Sunday sermons) from Jacqui about
nutrient management and developing
Farm Emergency Plans. She called it
"her rant". At the conclusion of the
workshop Lois set up one-hour
appointments for each of us to review
our Environmental Farm Plans. Each
step in the plan is a good reminder of
safety practices for such activities as
storing fuel, using pesticides, mixing
fertilizer, and managing household
and animal wastes. Anyone who
