Crusading farmer
seeks to help
Russian doctors
Blyth farmer Stephen Webster,
who made headlines for the
Grassroots movement by camping
out in his car at Queen's Park, has
taken up a new challenge.
Webster recently hosted Dr.
Andrey Yuryevich Goldyrev at his
farm and met with local MP Paul
Steckle and MPP Carol Mitchell in
an effort to cut the bureaucratic red
tape necessary for the neurologist
and his wife Olga, a specialist in
pediatrics, to immigrate from
Omsk, Siberia to western Ontario to
set up a practice.
"The doctor shortage crisis is
only going to get worse," Webster
said. "You can build million -dollar
clinics but it doesn't matter if you
don't have doctors. We can make
the impossible happen."O
