10 THE RURAL VOICE
Mabel's Grill
The
world's
problems
are
solved
daily
'round
the table
at
Mabel's.
"So, like now that the Prime
Minister is going to be from Alberta,
do you think they'll stop all that
complaining about the rest of us not
understanding them?" Dave Winston
wondered the other day.
"Oh they'll still be complaining
until we move the federal
government and the headquarters for
all the banks and the television
networks to Alberta," said Cliff
Murray. "This western alienation
thing has been going on so long I
can't see them getting over 11"
"Yeh, everybody's so mad out
there it's no wonder their cattle
caught the disease," joked Dave.
"I'd have been a lot better off if
Alberta had got mad enough to
separate from Canada before they
found those BSE cases," said George
McKenzie.
"Funny how they never credit the
rest of us for putting up with all the
trouble they've caused us," said Cliff.
"I mean every time there's another
case of BSE like this last one, you
just know it's going to be in Alberta."
"Oh well, at least the border is
going to stay open this time," said
George. "I mean, compare our
situation to the Americans with
Japan."
"Yeh, how'd you like to be the
guy in that packing plant who
allowed those backbones to slip
through in the Japanese order and
shut down exports for the whole
country," said Dave. "He better hope
his identity never slips out to the
public."
"At least the Americans admitted
this whole mess was their fault," said
Cliff.
"Yeh, not like they're doing with
the Olympics," said George. "Did
you hear about the guy who tested
positive for drugs but he claimed it
was from a hair restoration product
