Help solve the income crisis in agriculture
The Unified Voice has heard from
the Ontario government that they
agree Ontario farmers require
immediate and long-term solutions to
the devastating income crisis on our
farms. We are continuing to work
with them on what we need.
Your Federal and Provincial
Members of Parliament need to hear
from you immediately. If they are not
in their constituency offices or
unavailable — leave them a message
by e-mail or voice mail.
This is what your MP and MPP
needs to know:
1. Ontario farmers require a three-
year program to stabilize their
industry and the economies of rural
communities.
2. Ontario farmers require adequate
dollars to address the income crisis
now.
3. The Federal government must
respond to this farm income
emergency now.
The following is your local MP

Read property assessment notices carefully
Property assessment notices were
recently sent to all property owners.
Please check your notice on all farm
properties to ensure they are classified
correctly.
Farm Taxable: Full - means the
"full" taxable farmland tax rate on your
land and outbuildings, which is 25 per
cent of the residential tax rate.
Residential Taxable: Full - means
the "full" taxable residential tax rate on
your house and one acre.
If your Property Assessment Notice
for your farm property does not show
"Farm Taxable: Full", and only shows
"Residential Taxable: Full", your entire
farm property will be taxed at the full
residential rate.
Please review your Assessment
Notice. If you think the information on
your Notice is incorrect, please contact

FEDERAL TRANSPORT
REGULATION REVIEW
The current federal transport
regulations are 30 years old and a review
is scheduled to begin later this fall.
Requirements related to feeding,
watering, mandatory rest times and
loading densities will all be reviewed.
Industry standards are currently better
than the regulations.
Comments on the regulations must be
submitted prior to March 2006. The
revised regulations will then be published
in the Canada Gazette, for an 'official"
public comment period. OFAC will make
recommendations and comments
available to our members for
consideration and submission.

ONTARIO FARM ANIMAL
COUNCIL UPDATES
TRANSPORTATION GUIDES
Should this animal be loaded?
The Ontario Farm Animal Council
(OFAC) has updated charts for pigs, and
cattle, sheep and goats reflecting the
changes in federal regulations prohibiting
the loading or transport of non-
ambulatory animals.
Both charts have been reviewed by
veterinarians and will continue to be
updated and clarified as questions arise.
Work is also underway on a new booklet
to complement these charts, "Caring for
Compromised Cattle" to be available
later this fall.
Over 40,000 of these charts have
been distributed 10 producers,
transporters, meat inspectors and
through sales barns to date. A larger,
two-sided, laminated poster has also
been produced for posting in sales barns
and other relevant locations.
Thank you to the commodity groups,
OSPCA, CFIA and OMAFRA for their
help with distribution. Special thanks to
Bill Lowe from OMAFRA, who has been
tirelessly delivering these resources to
sales barns across the province.°
