and were encouraging us to enter so
we thought we'd help them out."
Boer said most of their work was
on their gardens but they didn't have
to do any major work to the property.
"If they ever had the competition
here again, I would certainly enter
it," she said.
She said the competition this year
was tough. "There were a lot of other
beautiful homes in the area that could
have won and we were really
honoured to be selected."
"I was thrilled to be a part of the
opportunity to showcase Perth
County," Annamarie Murray, a
member of the Beautification
committee said.
Murray said the committee spread
the word of the competition over a
year in advance with a flyer that was
sent with the 2004 tax notices.
"People had to commit early," she
said, "so they had a year to prepare."
The committee was very
pleased with the judging, the
pictures and the entries,"
Murray said.
Photos of the entries were
showcased in a tent at the plowing
match. "Many people came through
to see them," she said.
"It was wonderful to see the
different properties and the care and
pride that people took in their
homes."
In the category for most attractive
century garden, Harry and Andrea
Van Dam of St. Paul's took home the
first place prize, Monkton's Rastorfer
Farms placed second and Dale and
Period buildings still remain on the
Stoskopf's century farm. One
