"The reality is that today, no one
is defending the trade interests of
Canada's farmers. No other sector
would have put up with it. Why
were our lends so tied?
"If we don't understand BSE, we
are doomed to repeat it." Holm says.
She says farmers should urge their
general farm organizations to step up
to the challenge of exploring this
topic at upcoming fall/winter
meetings.
"Now, more than ever, one voice
is needed. For too long, trade policy
has been used as an excuse to divide
farm voice. It's time it became a
rallying cry."
Others worry the border spat isn't
over yet. "We can't be too confident
we're out of the woods," says
McKillop. "We still don't have
