Students from across Perth
County have contributed to the
decoration of the tents by creating
banners with the "Back to Our
Roots" theme.
The committee has been very
aware of including Ontario
curriculum requirements in the show.
offering something for every age
group.
For the youngest visitors, the
students are encouraged to visit the
mini -corn maze, and the
Conservation area to learn about the
characteristics and needs of plants
and animals.
pioneer life, a key element for
Grade 3 studies. can be viewed
through a visit to the Antique
and Historical division as well as in
the Lifestyles tent where there will he
displays of antique household items
and skills once required by all
pioneers
The Conservation section, with its
working water display will aid senior
elementary students examine water
use by humans and the impacts of
those uses. -
For secondary school students. the
Conservation and Antique areas give
them a view of agricultural activities
and the interaction with environment
in which they work.
In addition to specific displays
that fit with the curriculum. the
committee has designed "Kernel of
Knowledge" sites, indicated
throughout tented city by the corncob
symbol.
Special provisions have been
made at the education site for those
with disabilities or nursing mothers.
This will be a tremendously
exciting and active place to be during
the IPM as children and adults alike,
rural and urban, learn a little more
about agriculture and the world
around them.
With its wonderful smells and
spectacular colours, the Lifestyles
Tent is one of the favourite stops on
any visitor's tour. .
The 2005 edition will be no
different as organizers focus on
"Routes to Roots" as they showcase
cooking skills, theatrical talents,
music, dance, fashion and artistic
endeavors.
Committee chair Ruth Long says
