planted next spring to enhance water
filtration in the pond.
Ducks Unlimited Canada and
Canada's Outdoor Farm Show
partnered with several other sponsors
to construct the pond last year to
promote wetland management and
conservation.
Tocated just east of Livestock
Central, the two -acre wetland
Jis home to demonstrations and
exhibits that are part of the Nutrient
Management/ Clean Water Expo.
Demos will feature the latest
agricultural -environmental products
and services geared towards
sustainable, responsible agriculture.
An array of alternative agriculture
displays and resources will peak
visitors' interest at the Eco Expo.
The Eco Tent houses a diverse
range of exhibits featuring alternative
energy, hemp, minerals, books,
organic products, services,
certification and much more. A
number of organizations and
associations will also be part of the
Expo to educate visitors and raise
awareness about their industries.
A popular attraction at the expo.
Mapleton Organic Dairy, will return
this year to serve up helpings of its
popular organic ice cream and frozen
yogurt. And the Stratford
Agricultural Society will be on hand
to promote ecologically friendlier
alternatives, such as the Mercedes
Smart Car, which will be raffled off
after the Show.
"It's important to include the Eco
Expo in our line-up," says Hand.

Stories from a fishing legend and
music from an up-and-coming
country star are part of the 2005
Farm Family Program.
Pro angler and inspirational
speaker Dave Mercer and Nashville
singer/song writer Mersaidee Soules
are the headliners for this year's
program, each taking the stage twice
daily in the Farm Family
Greenhouse. With so much to see on
the 100 -acre Show site, the Farm
Family Program is a welcome change
of pace for weary visitors looking for
some light-hearted fun.
"The Program offers a place
where visitors can find refuge in the
shade. sit hack, relax and enjoy some
great music or demonstrations," says
Henrietta Coole, director of client
relations for the Show.
When not casting his line as host
of Facts of Fishing on the Outdoor
Life Network, Mercer is motivating
people to aim high with his
inspirational life stories. Mercer tells
no tall tales when it comes to his
dreams and successes. Listeners can
pick up tips on life from this fishing
pro.
Mercer will be joined by Picton.
Ontario native Mersaidee Soules -
one of country music's rising stars.
In 2001. one of Soules' songs was
recorded by a major Canadian artist
and aired on the hit TV series
Dawson's Creek. And the song. He
Knew, co -written with Will Hopkins.
won them the overall Grand Prize at
the 2004 Mid -Atlantic Song Contest.
And the Farm Family Program
wouldn't be complete without daily
grilling demonstrations that will
show visitors how to cook up a
backyard feast. On the menu for this
year's demonstrations are corn -fed
beef, fish and vegetables with pesto.

A live auction expected to
generate more than $500,000 will be
the highlight of the 4-H Ontario 90th
anniversary celebration.
The 4-H Fantasy Dairy Auction
will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
September 15, in the Cover -All Dairy
Barn, led by David Carson Farms
and Auction Services. Show -goers
can bid on a variety of items donated
by 10 major dairy barn sponsors. A
portion of the proceeds from the live
auction will be donated to 4-H
Ontario.
Items for auction are: a Lely
robotic milker, a Harvestore silo, a
Cover -All building, a feature
purebred Holstein heifer from
GenerVations Inc., a Jay -Lor TMR
mixer, a Mueller milk cooler from
Norwell, Syri-con Power -Crete dairy
slats, an Arntjen Big -Ass Fan, a
eight -foot electric manure pump from
Husky and a one-year lease on a
feed -filled pickup truck, courtesy of
Land O'Lakes.
