The Rural Voice, 2005-05, Page 39appliances and will scrub out stains in
pots, pans and bathtubs, sinks and
kids toys with great ease and
disinfecting power. I also use this
extremely mild abrasive to sprinkle
into my rugs and carpets. It helps
raise dirt to the surface and
deodorizes the fibres, releasing
everyday living odours. Don't forget
to sprinkle a little in the kitty litter
and on the surface of pets' bedding.
My favourite rags for all jobs are
old cotton T -shirting or undershirts.
This material soaks up water, wrings
wonderfully and the fabric really
picks up the dirt and dust. Wrap a
piece around your dusting mop or
broom and you've got your own
homemade swiffer, Now you can
effectively reach over your head to
dust wall and ceilings, reach under
sofas and wall units and best of all
the rags are reusable...very cost
effective and eco -friendly!
Leftover rolls of wall covering are
great for lining the bottom of dresser
drawers, pot and pan drawers and 1
use a length as a drop sheet under
small craft projects. Empty cardboard
pop case flats are great to use as trays
under cans of open paint while doing
projects. Little spills fall onto the
case rather than the surrounding area
while pouring from the big can to the
smaller job can.
White toothpaste easily scrubs
away stubborn black heel marks on
vinyl flooring, works great on vinyl -
clad window trim and I even know of
a couple of situations in which it was
used in a pinch as an alternative
spackling agent!
Here, at our fingertips we have
these simple, cost-effective products
that can assist in the cleaning and
sprucing up of our home. A home
that is neat, tidy and fresh adds to all
the inhabitants' health and vitality
and general order in our lives,
enabling us to greet the world at large
with a positive energy force. Simply
put, a clean home supports and
nurtures our sense of well
being...wow!
So gentle readers, by later today
I'll have put my house in order for
this season and be able to get outside
and tackle the exterior rooms and
gardens. No, the to -do -list is never
done, but what a blessing to be
physically able and capable of doing
them! 0
