The Rural Voice is provided to all farmers
in Huron County by the HCFA.
Farm Hikers toured Howick in September
The Fall Farm Hiker Tour was
held this year on September 21 in the
Howick area of the county. It was
sponsored by the Howick and
Turnberry Agricultural Society, along
with the Huron Federation of
Agriculture. Also thanks to the Huron
County Egg Producers, Huron
County Wheat Committee, Huron
County Pork Producers, Huron
County Holstein Club and Ontario
Soybean Growers' Marketing Board
for financial assistance in the
endeavour.
Stops along the way included the
dairy farm of Bruce Rattan and
family, Ole and Elly Rassmussen's
sheep farm, Arabian horse farm
owned by Dave and Jean Dinsmore,
Maitland Manor Nursery owned by
Ron and Jacqueline Knop, Deercrest
Farms of Will and Nancy Stafford,
and Bennett Farms started in 1943 by
Bill Bennett, now operated by Ron
and Barb Bennett and son Bob. This
farm has 4,750 acres with 6,500 beef
cattle, 300 sows farrow -to -finish,
7,500 custom -fed pigs, and 500 cash
crop acres.
At the end of the tour at the
Howick Community Centre, the 4-H
group had a display on pork
production. The finale of the tour was
a country supper served at the centre.
Approximately 350 enjoyed the tour
on the beautiful day and about 160
attended the supper.

Resolution going to OFA annual meeting
The following resolution is being sent
to Annual Convention from Huron
Federation of Agriculture:
...WHEREAS OFA has democratic
representation as a mandate,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED
that OFA employ a system of
numerical representation so that each
delegate to Convention represents
the same number of members with
the north being grandfathered at
current representation.0
ALL -CANDIDATES MEETING HELD
On Thursday, September 18 the Huron Federation of
Agriculture sponsored an All -Candidates meeting for the
Huron/Bruce riding for the Provincial Election held on
October 2.
We had five candidates in attendance: Helen Johns
(Progressive Conservative); Carol Mitchell (Liberal);
Grant Robertson (NDP); Shelley Hannah (Green Party);
and Dave Joslin (Family Coalition).
President Neil Vincent was the moderator for the
evening which drew a crowd of at least 250.0
