The Rural Voice, 2003-10, Page 29pertaining to sky appearance, cloud
movement or wind change, have any
hope of success". In short, we must
often keep a steady watch for what
changes are happening in order to
predict what change is probably to
come. Of course, we are talking
"probabilities" here — but so too are
our meteorologists.
"If wooly fleeces deck the heavenly
way, be sure no rain will mar a
summer's day."
"When clouds appear like rocks and
towers, the earth's refreshed by
frequent showers."
"When clouds look like black smoke,
a wise man will put on his cloak."
For most of us, keeping an eye on
the changes in cloud cover is
probably the easiest place to start. In

Plants and animals
have their say:
Swallows high in the air, means
weather will be fair.
Spider webs in the grass in the
morning — it will not rain that day.
If bees stay at home, rain will soon
come. If they fly away, fine will be
the day.
Moss dry, sunny sky, moss wet,
rain we will get.
When leaves show their back, rain
we won't lack.
Cows lying down are a good
indication of rain.
When the flies are bighting in the
evening, then rain to follow in the
morning.
Seagull, seagull sit on the sand.
It's never good weather when
you're on the land.
When the trees begin their dance,
of rain there is a great big chance.
When the ass begins to bray, be
sure we shall have rain that day.
If the chickens stay out in the rain,
it will rain all day.0
