The Rural Voice, 2003-09, Page 58Home Decorating It's a moving storg to remember Patti Robertson operates Classic Interiors in Wingham. By Patti Robertson "Oh my God ... George! The famous line was spoken by Sandy Dennis to Jack Lemmon in the original movie The Out of Towners. As the couple stumbles from one unbelievable crisis to the next, this line is used with astonishment and consternation. Over the years I too have used this line and Ward and I both chuckle at movie memories, but little did I know how real this line would become until we moved our youngest daughter and her beau to their new Toronto high-rise condo. It was to be a smooth move. Ward and I were to get all her inherited, stored pieces of furnishings to Toronto, help beau Steve move the remaining two heavy pieces of furniture in their apartment, and while all was being settled at the new place I was to clean the old emptied apartment ready for the new tenants moving in the following day. As a good mommy I also volunteered to bring dinner. As there were only several pieces of stored furniture to move to Toronto we reserved a 14 -foot LT -Haul truck. Arriving the night before to pick up said vehicle we are informed that the I4 -foot rental would be substituted for a 26 foot. Well, you should have seen how little space the furniture took up in this monster cavity! But, at least we had a truck. Our arrival time was to be 1:00 p.m. Even with a couple of pick-ups along the way, Toronto traffic and all, we arrived right on time at the soon -to -be - vacated rental which is on the third floor of a beautiful old home, boasting winding 22 -inch wide stairways, sharp turns, a fire escape that is partly constructed of rusting shaky steel and rotting plywood and is anything but straight, and oh yes! these treads are 54 THE RURAL VOICE only 15 inches wide. All very quaint. Still no problem, all should be moved except the two heavy pieces by the time we arrive. On the verandah of said abode we meet our oldest daughter, Heidi, coming down with some odds and ends and she greeted us with a roll of her eyes ... no smile? I chose to ignore this, because if you have daughters, you'll know how sisters can be and I chose not to get involved at such an early point in our excursion. I should have asked. We wove our way up the stairs and through the door and ... "Oh My God George"! You could not tell what had been moved. The packed apartment still sported its full complement of furnish- ings, the computer was still fully Farm.
