Second and third place winners
receive $1,000 and $500
respectively.
The Quality Carcass Competition
is open to purebred and commercial
entries. "It's a great opportunity for
both purebred and commercial cattle
feeders to promote breeding and
feeding programs," Underhill says.
Entry forms for the Quality
Carcass Competition (steers or
heifers, purebred or commercial) can
be obtained from Jordon Underhill at
1-800-563-5441 ext. 39.
All visitors to the Beef Expo at
will have an opportunity to score the
cattle entered in the carcass
competition and estimate carcass
quality. The visitor who scores the
winning animal closest to the actual
post -show grading will receive a box
of steaks cut from the winning
carcass.
Several times each day there will
be a demonstration featuring the top
livestock handling systems on the
market today, each with a focus on
both operator safety and animal care.

grazing will return this year as
Ja featured demonstration of the
Beef Expo. Pasture specialists will be
on hand to discuss the management
of grazing systems designed to
maximize yields and maintain a
healthy mix of grasses and legumes.
The popular Beef Pavilion has
been expanded for 2003 to
accommodate a larger representation
from the breed associations, suppliers
and supporting industry associations.
At least 10 of the breeds that are
currently part of Ontario's beef herd
will be on display at the Beef Expo.
The Dairy Expo will offer a
chance to see, not only a robotic
milker in action, but how a herd
adapts to the milker. A new 50 -cow
herd will be brought in to train on the
robotic milking system prior to the
Show. This will give producers a
chance to witness the transition of the
herd from a traditional milking
parlour or tie -stall operation to a
robotic system. After the show, the
herd will return to the new robotic
milker installed on the home farm.
