16 THE RURAL VOICE
J'd
heard about the Keady Farmers
Market for years but never been
there before. What's more I was
later than I'd expected, and so as I
met a constant stream of traffic as I
drove toward Keady just before noon
one July Tuesday, I imagined I might
get there and everyone would have
gone home. Obviously I hadn't been
to Keady Farmers Market before!
When I arrived in the Grey
County hamlet, the traffic was like a
Blue Jays game. The streets were
lined on both sides. A field
designated for a parking lot was also
jammed, though by now the odd
parking space was beginning to
appear. What was it like before all
those people left for home?
The market sprawls over several
acres. The area next to the parking
lot has row on row of stalls selling
everything from clothing to CDs and
videos to canaries. Head east and
you come to a sign announcing the
Keady Farmers Market, obvious
evidence that the market has grown
beyond its original home.
