The Rural Voice, 2003-03, Page 37Roland recalls, because they could see the writing on the wall for a down -sizing of the ministry. Being a farmer involved in farm organizations (he's a former regional director of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture) Roland felt being part of a province -wide organization was the way to go so the Huron -Perth group was set up as a Chapter of the Ontario Woodlot Association. As members of the Ontario organization, Huron -Perth members get its quarterly newsletter and the opportunity to attend the provincial annual meeting. Joining a woodlot association isn't a major investment. The Grey and Bruce association each charge $25 a year. The Huron -Perth group charges $35 a year which include affiliation with the Ontario Woodlot Association. To encourage new members, however, the group has an introductory special on right now of just $15 for the first year. Considering the staggering amount of dollars that can be made or lost by getting the best price for harvesting a woodlot, the membership fee is a small investment with the potential for a big return.0 Provincial Woodlot Association meeting March 1 in Guelph "Our Forests — Choices and Challenges" is the theme of the Ontario Woodlot Association's annual meeting in Guelph at the Colonel John McCrae Memorial Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, 919 York Road. The conference, which is open to all interested woodlot owners, will present discussions on a wide range of topics, all the way from forest health issues to forest raptors and their nesting habits to the provincial government's forest strategy for southern Ontario to woodland restoration of riparian areas and the financial aspects of woodlot ownership. As well, those attending will have the opportunity to socialize with other woodlot owners who share the same interests. A fee of $10 for members and $15 for non-members include a lunch.
