County Federation of Agriculture NEWSLETTER * The Rural Voice is provided to farmers
in Perth County by the PCFA.
President's Profile
The newly elected President of the Perth County
Federation of Agriculture is Tim Shute. Tim, his wife Ellen,
and their four boys Brendan, Brock, Brett and Bevon
operate a dairy farm near Woodham in the Blanshard
Ward of Perth South. After graduating from the Associate
Diploma in Agriculture program from the University of
Guelph in 1985, Tim worked in farm equipment sales.
After Tim and Ellen were married, they bought the farm
from Ellen's parents in 1989, and currently are milking 30
cows. They crop 250 acres of corn, barley and alfalfa for
the dairy herd and soybeans, winter wheat, and white beans as cash crops.
Tim has been very active in community activities, having served as President
of the Kirkton Agricultural Society, and the Kirkton-Woodham Farmers Club. He
also finds time to lead 4-H, be an Optimist Club member, and involved with
various Church committees.
Tim sees the Federation as a way for agricultural producers to send a strong
and united voice to all levels of government and to consumers. " Dialogue with
government officials is necessary to develop policies and programs that ensure a
healthy agricultural industry. Consumers need to be reassured that we are
providing them with a safe and abundant food supply at a very reasonable cost".
Tim looks forward to further developing the idea of an Agricultural Centre in
Perth, where agricultural groups could share space and equipment. The
upcoming Federal by-election in Perth/Middlesex is also something that Tim
feels farmers need to get involved with, so "Perth has a strong agricultural voice
in Ottawa".

Assessment notices
- is your property
in the correct tax
class?
Property Assessment Notices
have recently been received.
Please check these notices on all
your farm properties. What does
the Property Classification
description mean?
Farm Taxable: Full - means the
"full" taxable farmland tax rate on
your land and outbuildings, which
is 25 per cent of the residential
tax rate.
Residential Taxable: Full - means
the "full" taxable residential tax
rate on your house and one acre.
If you get an assessment notice
for your farm property that does
not show "Farm Taxable: Full",
and only shows "Residential
Taxable: Full" your entire farm
property will be taxed at the full
residential rate, and you will need
to appeal to the Assessment
Review Board to try to correct it.
