The Rural Voice, 2002-10, Page 56GREY County Federation of Agriculture NEWSLETTER 446 10th St., Hanover, Ontario N4N 1P9 Email grey@ofa on ca Website www Oa on cagrey By Bob Rodger, Past President Grey County Federation of Agriculture Well all things must come to an end. My term as executive member as past president will end on the evening of Friday. October 4. 2002 — seven years of time spent learning and meeting of people. It has been very rewarding to myself and my family. To think that the fax machine was hard to learn how to use and now, here I am typing this out on a computer and will be e - mailing it to the office in Hanover. It just goes to show you that we are always learning or at least should be willing to. Sometimes the information may seem a little overwhelming and even scary but, with information from both sides and the grace of God, your decisions can be better made. This year some new people will be taking over the gavel and leadership, in our Federation leaving voids in their homes while they are away. Encourage them and be patient with them as they learn and represent you the Farmers of Grey County. Volunteer and help out when asked and you may also learn something that will benefit your livelihood. The connections. you make today may help you in the future. Karl. Chittka, our president for the past three years, has been a very busy and respected spokesperson for us the farmers of Grey County. He will be missed as our president but I'm sure he will offer his support and knowledge to the new president. October, in my mind, is the month GCFfl Office Hours Monday to friday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. GREY COUNTY FEDERATION OF AGRICULTURE PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO Board of Directors' meeting in October because of the Annual Meeting. My last words in which the fall colours leave you breathless. With Thanksgiving during this month. for us Canadians, is a time to reflect also on our good fortunes of the past growing season, and to start planning and attending information meetings for the next growing season. Remember that you should "also be planning for the betterment of your farmstead and not just the bottom line. If you have yet to complete an Environment Farm Plan contact the Agriculture Service Centre in Markdale at 986-3756 to get more information. Doing a plan and following it will make for a better place for you to farm, and healthier environment for your family to grow in. Doing the plan was my first encounter with Township Federations. The welcoming that I received started me on my learning and leadership roles with the Federation. I would like to say "Thank You, the Farmers of Grey County" for the opportunities that you have given to me, to learn and to grow. Thanks also to two ladies who this Federation is very fortunate to have: Donna Spitzig our secretary/treasurer and Gertie Blake our OFA Field Representative who both truly do an outstanding job for the farmers of Grey County. May this Thanksgiving find that you don't have to look too far to find something to be thankful for. Remember throughout the year that we are living in the best part of this country and the best country in the world 'It is up to us to keep it that way — not corporations or governments. Don't count on them or rely on them. It is truly individuals who make this country so great and farmers like yourself.
