The local Hay West committee has
set up a number of depots to begin
gathering hay to send to drought -
plagued farmers in Alberta.
These depots. which are now
open. are to receive hay that should
be moved immediately. That includes
hay that should be taken off fields to
allow for other farm work, or before
rain makes them inaccessible.
Farmers who do not need to move
their hay immediately are asked to
wait to make arrangements for
delivery until closer to the rail
shipment date, later this fall.
Anyone who needs to bring hay in
now is asked to first call the contact
for the depot in their area so
unloading and placement can be
arranged.
The initial depots are being set up
at:
• Grey County Roads Department,
north of Chatsworth. Call Bob
Pringle 797-2579.
• Sprucedale Agromart in Tara. Call
Jen Christie 934-3414.
• Old MTO yard east of Flesherton on
• The Rural Voice is provided to all Grey
County Farmers by the GCFA.

• Grey Bruce Livestock Co-op yard at
Wiarton. Call Larry Miller 376-2205,

Meanwhile, Grey Warden Larry
Miller, who chairs the Hay West
committee for Grey and Bruce areas,
said he remains confident that rail
cars will be available to ship the hay.'
Media reports from the West have
suggested that rail cars may be
scarce. But Miller said he continues
to be "90 per cent" certain that the
necessary cars will be available to
ship this area's hay.
To date more than 4,000 large
round bales of hay have been pledged
to the local drive. That total could
reach 5,000, Miller told the Hay West
committee August 23.
A benefit concert, tentatively
entitled Hay Aid, to raise funds to
Clean Water Festival volunteers needed
The second Grey Bruce Clean
Water Festival will be held
September 23 to 26 in Chesley. Some
2,100 Grade 4 students will
participate in this hands-on festival
which will emphasize the importance
of water to our lives and the reasons
we need to conserve it. The Clean
Water Festival is designed to educate
our children on the importance of this
valuable natural resource.
Many volunteers are needed on
each of the four days to assist with
parking, greeting, manning the
displays, assisting over the lunch
hour, and various other tasks. Lunch
will be provided for the volunteers.
As well, volunteers will be needed
for set-up on Saturday, September 21
and dismantling after the students
leave on Thursday, September 26.
