Diane O'Shea: Lifestyles exhibit
recaptures joys of yesterday
Lifestyles Committee, says that with
today's lifestyles, the joys of our
slower -paced yesterdays can
sometimes be forgotten. Few people
have the time to sit on the family
porch and chat with their neighbours,
or simply watch the world go by.
Members of the Lifestyle
Committee will help IPM visitors to
recapture some of yesterday's values,
today. The focal point for their
exhibit area is a huge porch, 60 feet
from end to end.
' The reason we went with this
porch theme is that it's a symbol of
our homes and families," O'Shea
says.
The porch serves as a gateway to
three large tents. Straight ahead is a
stage and seating area where ongoing
presentations featuring everything
from food preparation to gardening
tips will be held. To the right, a
variety of artisans who will be
bringing some of their very best
samples of their work. To the left are
the quilt exhibits.
The porch theme is picked up in
the quilt exhibit. The Lifestyles
Committee had 50 entries for its
block contest. The block designs,
which incorporate materials donated
by Northcott Silk Inc. of Toronto, all
reflect the porch theme. These have
been incorporated into four raffle
prizes.
There are 14 other quilt
competition classes along with
special quilts for display.
The Artisans section of Lifestyles
will feature 40 different artists and
crafts people, many from Middlesex
County. Their tent will include a
small stage that will be shared.
