Usually when people think of niche farming they
think of small acreages or part-time farmers. Dr.
Robert Church turned that idea on its head when
he spoke at Grey -Bruce Farmers' Week. Church
is part of a large family operation that stretches
across three
continents and
extends past the
farm into ag-
related companies
in the U.S. Church
talked about how
to gain a share of
what he calls the
"entertainment
dollar", the extra
value consumers
are prepared to
pay above the
basic food cost.

If farmers attending Crops Day at Grey -Bruce Farmers' Week
were hoping to be surprised with good news about price
expectations, they were sadly mistaken. The chances of major
improvements in crop prices this year remain bleak, speakers
said. Pg. 16
