Perth Community Futures Steering Committee meets
The Perth Community Futures
Steering Committee has been
meeting since October, 2000. The
steering committee is made up of
representatives throughout Perth
County. representing a wide variety
of economic sectors. A representative
from Perth County Federation of
Agriculture sits as a member of the
steering committee.
The first annual meeting for the
Community Futures group in Perth
will be held in Milverton on January
23, 2002 at 5 p.m. at which time the
board of directors will be elected. It
is hoped that there will be carry-over
from the steering committee to the
Board of Directors so that there is a
good level of understanding at the
board level.
Community Futures Development
Corporation's (CFDC) are federally
funded, non-profit, local development
organizations run by volunteer boards
of directors and salaried staff.
CFDCs are well established in 252
rural communities across Canada.
Additional CFDCs are being
developed for all of rural Canada.
CFDCs provide support to small
businesses and communities to
enhance the local activity.
Healthy Futures - Rural Well Upgrading and
Decommissioning Project
The local Federation of
Agriculture, in collaboration with all
Ontario County Federations, has
secured funds from the Healthy
Futures for Ontario Agricultural
program to develop the Rural Well
Upgrading and Decommissioning
Project for rural residents of Ontario
(farm and non-farm). The Ontario
Federation of Agriculture is
administering this project on behalf
of the County Federations.
Under this grant program, well
upgrades will be covered for 67 per
cent of the individual project cost.
Well decommissioning will be
covered for 64 per cent of the project
costs. Funds are limited and projects
will be reviewed on a first-come first-
served basis.
Eligible projects include:
• grading and seeding of surfaces
around wells allowing for surface
water diversion from wellheads
• upgrading or replacement of
deteriorated well casings
• extension of well casing to at least
16 inches above grade
• repairing or replacement of annular
seal
• installation of proper wellhead caps
• upgrading large diameter wells to

ensure water -tight casing to depth.
Well decommissiong projects
apply to unused wells and wells that
were improperly decommissioned.

Their programming includes
community economic development,
business counselling, business loans,
loan guarantees, equity financing and
others.
Additional services include
marketing assistance, youth
programs, e-commerce and e-
business training, business seminars
and export development. CFDCs
have a broad network to bring a wide
range of services to local business.0
