There's an ongoing wolf problem in
the district. Ken and Tyler McKinnon
thought that they were after one last
week and it turned out to be a cougar.
These animals have been spotted a
number of times, but they are very quick.
Tracks are always what they leave
behind. A 4-H conservation club that I
led measured tracks at over four inches
across and did a plaster cast mould of
them for proof.
Each year the Fair board presents a
trophy for the best "Whole Wheat
Bread" category. Recipients for the first
place were: in 1992, Mary Stewart;
1993, Helen Logan; 1994, Louise Bliss;
1995, Myrtle Wheatley; 1996, Jane
Tyrvainen; 1997, Helen Logan; 1998,
Myrtle Wheatley; 1999, Joyous Bragg;
2000, Helen Logan. Helen is my mom
and a great cook. When they win at the
Emo Fair, they are then judged at the
District Annual. Mom won again. Now
she goes on to Toronto in February to be
judged again. She doesn't want her age
mentioned, but she turned 80 five years
ago and is still going strong. We're
mighty proud of her.
