The Rural Voice, 2000-12, Page 48said this, I think producers need to
follow the market very closely to spot
an opportunity to sell. At the time of
writing the soybean futures are in a
post-harvest rally, which may
continue until we get reports from
South America.
Considering the depths to which
corn and soybean prices fell, the
recent improvements are certainly
welcome. But with less grain to
market, producers need to carefully
watch the grain markets and try to hit
key pricing targets. These may be
your personal targets or those
suggested by advisory services. As
I've written many times, producers
must have a marketing plan on which
to base pricing decisions before they
can make a sale. Each year the plan
needs to be fine-tuned depending on
production, but a basic plan needs to
be in place. And, don't forget about
marketing next year's crops where I
think there will be very good pricing
opportunities. Patience will be the
key.0
