Directors acclaimed at Annual meeting At the annual meeting of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture in Varna', October 12, the, following Township Directors were elected: East Wawanosh, Ian Scott, RR 3, Blyth; Goderich, John Rodges, RR 2, Goderich; Grey, Dave Lewington, RR 2, Brussels; Hay, Hans Soer, RR 1, Dashwood; Howick, Will Stafford, RR 1, Wroxeter; Morris, Dave Linton, RR 2, Blyth; Stanley, Marilyn Broadfoot, RR 5, Clinton; Stephen, Tom Hayter, RR 1, Dashwood; Tuckersmith, Steve Johns, RR 4, Seaforth; Usborne, Chris Weernink, RR 1, Kirkton. Elected as Regional Directors were: Huron South (Hay, Stephen, Usborne, Stanley, Tuckersmith) Wayne Hamilton, RR .1, Varna. Huron West: (Ashfield, Goderich, Colborne, East and West Wawanosh, Hullett) Evert Ridder, RR 2, Clinton. Huron East (Howick, Grey, Morris, McKillop, Turnberry) Victor Roland, RR I, Gorrie. Directors -at -large are: Brenda Huron Federation Bursary winners named For several years the Huron County Federation of Agriculture has donated a scholarship to each high school in the county to a graduating student going on to a college or university in an agriculture or agri-related field. This year the students receiving our awards were: from Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton, Michelle Hallahan; south Huron High School, Exeter, Nico Peeters; Seaforth High School, Craig Gillis; F. E. Madill, Wingham, Shawn Ritchie; and from St. Anne's Catholic High School, Clinton, Thomas Deuschlie; Goderich District High School, Rolf Schuttel. Our congratulations go out to all of these young people.° HCFA sends resolutions to OFA convention WHEREAS investment in Ontario's agricultural income support programs is not competitive with investment in U.S. and Quebec income support programs, and WHEREAS Quebeec's investment for income support and stabilization (ASRA) programs far exceeds similar investment by Ontario, and WHEREAS the Ontario provincial government has made a commitment "to work with the federal government to ensure our farmers are competing on a level playing field." THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the OFA co-ordinate discussion amongst commodity groups in investigating an ASRA like program for Ontario. The following resolutions were passed at HCFA Annual meeting, October 12 to be forwarded to OFA Annual Meeting November 20. Convention Delegates WHEREAS the bylaws of OFA 48 THE RURAL VOICE refer to the principle of equitable representation by population and WHEREAS the OFA Annual meeting is designed for the general membership to voice its opinion with respect to their General Farm Organization and WHEREAS regions do not have an equal amount of members THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that delegates to the OFA Annual meeting be elected so that they represent an equal number of members rather than by regions as it is done now.° McIntosh, RR 4, Seaforth; Stephen Thompson, RR 2, Clinton; Barry Elliott, RR 1, Lucknow. WHEREAS prompt and reliable ambulance service is the goal for all of Huron County whether it be with increased summer population or in winter under adverse weather conditions. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that HCFA lobby Huron County Council to maintain the status quo of ambulance service for the year 2001, evaluate the results in 2002 before investing monies in the new buildings and altering the system.° HCFA OFFICE HOURS Mondays and Fridays 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday Please leave a message.
