The Rural Voice, 2000-09, Page 37residue, and in -field demonstrations of the latest innovations in handling bales — round or square, big or small. "Material handling in the field or at the barn has become a big item on most farms and we want to help the farmer make the right choice of equipment for his particular conditions," Elston says. New for Ag Expo 2000 is a skid steer demonstration. These power units with various attachments, from buckets to scrapers, have become "the little workhorse" on many farms. The daily demonstrations will feature products from several manufacturers. Anew venture in crop spraying will be unveiled at AG Expo 2000 as Rotary Air Force introduces gyroplane technology. With its 20 ft sprayboom and 30 gallons of product on board, the gyroplane can apply pesticides at much lower cost than a helicopter and with no effect on the spray pattern from the rotor blades. For those livestock farmers for whom liquid manure is part of their cropping program, a new liquid manure handling technology developed in Taiwan will be on display through Byron Ballagh of Wingham and his Ballagh Liquid Technologies. The TR separator is now manufactured in Canada and Ballagh says the TR technology has more than 10,000 installations worldwide for municipal, industrial and agricultural waste treatment. "The key to manure waste management is the efficient separation of solids from liquids, and this separation system is tops on the market," Ballagh says. The unit is designed for both dairy and hog operations. Many of those farmers who are in the dairy industry will be watching the demonstration of the Lely robotic milking system which will milk a herd of 60 cows throughout the three- day period of the show. Ontario dairy farmers are leading the North American industry in the adoption of robotic technology, according to Jack Rodenburg, OMAFRA dairy specialist. "Automated milking will have a major influence on the future of both dairy farming and rural communities. Barrie Metals Ltd.
