remembers Hill.
"I don't think anybody said no,"
Hill remembers of the approach to
the 20 commodity groups involved.
The brainstorming led to a
proposal for Flavours of Perth. With
the millennium year coming up it
sounded like a perfect project for
funding from the Mill'ennium
Program.
"Everybody but the Millennium
Committee thought it was a great
idea," remembers Hill. Luckily,
among those who thought it was a
great idea was the Agricultural
Adaptation Council which provided
funding for the recipe book.
The recipe book is important in
promoting all the commodities
taking part, says Schmidt.
Some of the producer associations
supporting the event such as the emu
producers, couldn't provide enough
meat for the 2,500 samples expected
to be sold at the event so having their
recipes included in the book helped
them spread the word about their
product.
The recipe book also takes the
message of the diversity of Perth
County's food sector into every
home. Recipes include everything
from roasted garlic and bean dip to
maple syrup chicken to honey
balsamic vinaigrette to new -style
pork and bean salad to ton o' garlic
chicken.
Producer groups taking part
include cropping organizations like
the white bean and coloured bean
producers, wheat producers, corn
producers, soybean producers and
garlic growers. Main stream livestock
groups like the dairy farmers, pork
producers, cattle producers, sheep
producers, turkey producers and egg
and chicken farmers are joined by
less -well-known groups like the
Ontario Goat Milk Producers'
Association, Ontario Veal
Association and a local emu farm.

Ontario Maple Syrup Producers and
