Vogel Energy pipeline landowners unite! The Canadian Alliance of Pipeline Landowner Associations (CAPLA) has recently announced its formation to advocate on behalf of energy energy pipeline landowners infrastructure and to assist its member organizations in representing the interests of Canadian pipeline landowners. Expanding markets for Canadian natural gas means increased use of existing pipelines and the construction of new pipelines and related underground storage facilities. Much of this energy infrastructure is located either by agreement or expropriation on productive farmland. The landowners whose property is impacted by these facilities are becoming increasingly aware of the interference of these facilities in their farm operations and potential resulting diminishment in long-term land values, soil productivity and quality of life. While such facilities are subject to federal or provincial regulation, landowners may be concerned about potential liability related to the operation of these facilities or upon their abandonment. In recent years, landowners on the route of specific pipelines who share these concerns have formed landowner associations to bring these issues to the attention of regulators and, in many cases, to negotiate Most is on productive farm land
