As another sideline to his bee
raising, Bayer has taken to producing
honey wine. a very mild, sweet
beverage with a light taste.
While allowed by government
regulation to produce several
hundred litres per year for personal
use. Bayer sees the wine as a
marketable product.
"Producing honey wine is very
economical," he says. "There is a
good profit. Good taxes for the
government would provide money
for other agricultural programs."
The making of honey wine is very
simple as it requires a five -to -one
ratio of water to honey and a few
months to ferment under appropriate
conditions.
A self-proclaimed activist. Bayer
says he will continue to fight for the
diversification of beekeeping as well
as the adoption of some his non-
traditional methods of raising the
insects.
