On Friday, October 26, new quarters for Huron County Federation of Agriculture office in Vanastra (former Twp. of Tuckersmith building) were opened. Taking part in the ribbon cutting were (left to right): Dick Burgess, Councillor Seaforth Ward of Huron East; Paul Nairn, Member Services 'Representative, Huron/Perth; Lin Steffler, Mayor of Huron East; Carol Finch, Secretary, Huron Federation of Agriculture; Sharon McClure, Councillor of McKillop Ward of Huron East; and Charles Regele, President.HCFA. Huron resolutions passed at OFA annual meeting " The following resolutions were passed at the OFA Convention which originated with the Huron County Federation of Agriculture. I. NISA Triggered Withdrawals: Whereas the current lobby effort for an equitable playing field is being hampered because some producers are not withdrawing their triggered Net InFome Stabilization Account (NISA) funds, and Whereas triggered NISA FUND 2 money is taxable only if it is withdrawn, Therefore be it resolved that in order to encourage withdrawal of triggered NISA funds the Ontario Federation of Agriculture lobby to make triggered NISA fund 2 money taxable even if it is not withdrawn so that the farm organization lobby for a level playing field is not hindered. Motion Carried. 2. Environmental Rehabilitation Program.: Whereas the current Healthy 64 THE RURAL VOICE Futures Program ends in March 2003, and a long term environmental rehabilitation program is needed, and Whereas the current Healthy Futures Program does not cover all environmental rehabilitation work that is needed, and Whereas the Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) funding is also short term, and Whereas proposed Nutrient Management Act 2001 may force farmers to incur capital expenses that help the environment but do not increase profitability, Therefore be it resolved that the Ontario Federation of Agriculture work with other farm groups to lobby the federal and provincial governments for a long-term Environmental Rehabilitation Program. Motion Carried. 3. Distribution of OFA Membership List: Whereas OFA has decided to enter into an agreement with a credit card company as a direct member benefit, and Whereas there has been opposition in the past to allowing the. use of OFA Membership Lists, Therefore be it resolved that the Ontario Federation of Agriculture test market in several counties any member benefit that involves the use of OFA's Membership list before agreeing to allow an outside organization to use OFA Membership lists 'for direct mail or phone solicitation.
