The Rural Voice, 2001-12, Page 29At the OFSC annual general
meeting September 23, Nicholson
said when members heard there was
the potential for this type of increase,
and realizing there was no money in
the budget to meet it, the Federation
authorized an increase in permit price
for up to $30.
"Fortunately by October I, we got
the second offer with only a 600 per
cent increase," said Nicholson. "That
meant it came to $10 over the
existing permit prices."
It is an increase that members felt
extremely important for one
particular reason, he said. "The
first thing we heard on that
convention floor was that we have to
protect the landowners. If not, we've
broken our trust and our agreement
Permit prices have
risen $10, down from
early $30 estimate
with them."
Nicholson said that 80 per cent of
the club members he has spoken with
are "right on board with a $ l0
increase."
"As negative as it is, the positive is
that it really brought out the need to
protect the landowners right up to the
fore. Without them, Bill 101 won't
matter, nothing would matter.
Because without them we don't have
the trails."0
Protecting landowners' rights is
most important, OFSC says.
