Francine Peeler is in the Christmas spirit 365
days a year, especially when it comes to
unwanted animals. From horses and donkeys to
cats and dogs she has made a special effort to
rescue animals in
distress. Over the
years she
estimates she's
rescued and found
homes for 30
dogs, 300 cats, 38
horses and six
donkeys — nearly
400 animalsyin all
without support of
any agency. Still,
not all the stories
have ended
happily.

RURAL VOICE
The country supper has been part of the rural culture almost
as long as there have been rural communities. But for a time
this summer and early fall there were fears church dinners and
other such suppers that are partly prepared in people's homes,
might become a thing of the past. Now, however there's a
movement to make the dinners safer, but still let them go on.
