"The livestock area. is exploding
this year, and we will really be
offering two shows in one," says
Ginty Jocius, president of Canada's
Outdoor Farm Show. "It's sure to be
a great opportunity for commercial
livestock farmers, as they can take
advantage of seeing all of the demos
and exhibits in one area. It will be
like one-stop shopping."
Cattle handling demonstrations, a
Beef Breeds Pavilion and the Beef
Management Innovations Contest are
all part of this year's Beef Expo at
Canada's Outdoor Farm Show.
New for the 2001 Show, both
yearlings and calves will be used for
the handling demos, which will be
held daily from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m. Three different handling units'
will be showcased. A pour -on demo,
an implanting demo and a tagging
demo — to inform farmers about the
National I.D. program — will show
the features and benefits of the
handling equipment.
Seven different breed associations
will have exhibits and pens in the
Beef Breeds Pavilion: Charolais,
Hereford, Blonde D'Aquitaine,
Angus, Saler, Limousin, and Texas
Longhorn.
Beef producers can also enter
the Beef Management
Innovations Contest.
Participants send in photos and a
description of an innovative beef
management idea they have
implemented on their farm. The
entries are judged by a panel of
experts, and the top four winners will
receive sponsor -donated prizes, such
as Ivomec products and steaks. The
contest is sponsored by Ontario Beef
Farmer, Merial and Ontario Corn Fed
Beef.
"The Beef Expo will feature more
demos and more equipment this
year," says Jordon Underhill,
livestock co-ordinator. "It will be a
great opportunity for beef producers
to check. out the latest in handling
equipment and more."
Part of the new exclusive
livestock area will be the Cover -All
Dairy Expo. A new 70 -by -120 foot.
