One of Alkalay's qualities was to be patient enough to let the co-op members stub their toes in their desire to be independent, before they'd be ready to listen to his suggestions for co-operative ways to accomplish their goals. Consultants like Alkalay may seem expensive for a group just getting started but they can help guide supporters through the tough times. The average person might come up with a good idea for a product they think will sell but there's a mountain of paperwork and red tape to be scaled and they don't know how to do it, Lindner says.
