AerWay helps prevent runoff by incorporating
liquid manure into the top 8" of the soil profile
without turning cover crops over or burying
residue. Liquid manure fills the holes and
cracks in the soil created by the unique
AerWay shattertine action to minimize the
potential for ground water contamination

techniques.
Only AerWay shattenines cut into the soil like•
a blade. then gently lift like a spade to
incorporate manure consistently and evenly in
the soil profile.
AerWay even works in hay crops or pastures
for immediate fertilizer benefit from manure
application. Now. with farming's leading and
most versatile agricultural aeration tool, you
can apply manure with minimum disruption

Vital bee industry
needs help
Agriculture in Canada needs strong
beehives in the spring for pollination.
Apple growers, in particular, need
strong hives very early in April and
May, while other crops come later.
Intense pollination is important for
apple orchard yield, but at present 80
per cent of most beehives are not strong
enough to do this job properly at this
time of the year.
Multiplying bees without a reduction
in honey yield in areas over 2600 heat
units is possible and economical.
Producing and selling 40,000 9 -frame
nucleus hives in southern Ontario is
possible. This could provide an income
of $4,000,000 for beekeepers in this
area. Only by selling bees and selling
honey directly to consumers will the
bee business survive.
Producing honey and selling by the
barrel to the three packers at their
monopoly price is not economical. This
is the reason that many beekeepers go
out of business. Ninety per cent of all
honey in Canada goes to these three
packers. The packers have the right to
import honey from other countries.
The Ontario Beekeepers Association
(OBA) knows this situation, but I think
that the leadership does not want to
change the situation. The OBA is a
producer organization and should be
selling barrel honey to the packers to
control the price to the producer. We do
not need a separate co-operative since
the administration is already in place
through the office in the OBA.
Beekeepers should also take advan-
tage of the Advance Payment Program
to help them market their honey for the
best possible price.
Another factor in reducing the num-
ber of hives in Ontario is the price of
the Apistan strip, made by the monopoly
holder Wellmark Intl. We need this
medication for fighting hive pests
originating from the United States.0
