One resolution called for an increase in the allocation of the per hog service fee to five cents per hog from four cents per hog "to help facilitate better interaction between Ontario Pork staff and our customers." There needs to be a system developed to give more transparency to pricing, he said. Another speaker urged Ontario Pork to have a salesperson on the road to develop more opportunities. A second resolution called for a service fee to be charged on weaner pigs leaving Ontario for growing elsewhere. The fee would help cover the cost of services provided by Ontario Pork such as research and environmental advocacy. "The idea is not just to get money from these people," said Russell Danbrook of Atwood. "It's a sense of fairness. What we're looking at is supplying services. We think it's only fair that producers shipping weaners out of the province should share these costs."
