Perhaps Not Tim Milloy of Milton had a dis- couraging experience this spring, He volunteered to run a Metter Boating course, on behalf of the Milton 'Safety Council. The course, prepared and distributed by the On- tario Safety League, with the help of the Allied Boating Association of Canada, consists of four one-hour lectures, with a written tort on each, hnergenic efforts to publicize the c0ursc resulted in a promised attendance of 40, But on °opening night only a dozen showed up, At- tendance was irregular over the four weeks, and a mere five com- pleted the course,. At the time, it seemed like a disappointing failure to Tim Mil- loy. But a few weeks later a re- port in the Milton paper put things in a rather different light: "Two couples spent ten chilly minutes Sunday clinging to the side of their overturned sailboat in the cold waters of Lake Ontario before they were rescued . , , Mr. Hans Neyers described the acci- dent; 'I was trying to turn the sloop when the squall hit. We didn't have time to put on our life jackets. We had seen the storm coming and I had warned the women to hold on to the boat if something should happen. When we did go over there was no panic.' "Although all four were strong swimmers they ellected to •stay with the boat. Asked why, Mr. Ne- yers commented: 'I knew it was the only thing to do. A person should never leave an overturned craft. I do a lot of sailing and this prompted me to take a boating safety course in Milton recently, It was because of this Ontario Safety League course I knew what to do. I think every- one should take one of these courses: " "11111111111111111111111111111111111111111011111111111111111111 SIGN PAINTING Commercial - Cut-out 'Letters - Trucks, etc. CALL LES REYNOLDS Phone 6W - Wingham RI IItlllIllllfiillINt;IIfIIIuima llUlll.Illrlllalill r So, beeuusc of a public service effort that resulted in an apparent "flop", there were no serious 000 - sequences from an aeeldent that might have resulted 14 multiple drowning.
