Fluffy and Puffy help Santa by Cheri Kryzanowski RR 1, Auburn Grade 8 Hullett Central School Shortly after midnight on a snowy Christmas Eve long ago, two frisky, white kittens, Puffy and Fluffy, were lazily lying in their cozy cages at a small pet store when a loud pitter-patter sound was heard throughout the store. Puffy and Fluffy stared at each other for a moment. “Wh-wh-what was that?” stut tered Puffy. “I don’t know,” Fluffy answered sleepily, “it was probably just your imagination. Why don’t you just ...” All of a sudden the lights in the store blinked and mysteriously went out. “Was that just my imagina tion?” Puffy stared at Fluffy. “You’re just having a dream.” Fluffy rolled over and curled up. “Now just go to sleep.” “Maybe you’re right,” Puffy agreed. “Good-night Fluffy.” Puf fy was about to drift off to dreamland when right in front of his nose appeared the jolliest face he had ever seen. “Ho-ho-ho!” the man cheered, “Merry Christmas!” “Fluffy!” Puffy shook the sleep ing kitten until she woke up and fluttered her eyes. “This man came here to wish us a Merry Christ mas!” “Wow!” Puffy’s eyes widened. “Listen to me kittens,” Santa whispered. “I need help delivering presents. There are more children this year. So I must go to many more houses. It is an easy job, all you have to do is put the presents under the tree while I bring them down the chimney to you.” “I’ll help you, Santa,” Puffy exclaimed, “Fluffy will too!” “Very well, my kittens,” Santa said gratefully, “Let’s go!” Santa picked up one kitten in each arm, tapped his heels together and disappeared. They felt a funny tingling and the next instant they were on the roof. “These are the reindeer,” Santa said proudly. Before them was a beautiful sleigh filled with toys of all shapes and sizes just waiting to be delivered to children all over the world. The reindeer were restlessly waiting and just as everyone said, there was Rudolph, with his bright red nose. Santa hurriedly said the chant to get them going and soon they were on their way. As the first house came into view. Puffy and Fluffy became nervous. What if they did something wrong? Before they knew it, the sleigh was coming to a stop on the roof of their first house. Out of the sleigh they hopped and down the chimney they flew. Puffy and Fluffy got to work immediately. As Santa brought the presents down the chimney, each of the hard-working kittens grabb ed a present and raced to the shining Christmas tree to put the presents neatly underneath the branches. Santa appeared at the bottom of the chimney once more and chuckled loudly. “No, no, no! You silly kittens,” Santa’s voice boomed, “There’s a much easier way!” “There is?” the kittens asked puzzled. “Of course!” Santa smiles at them. “If you just concentrate really hard the presents will float to the tree by themselves.” The kittens tried it. And sure enough the presents magically floated across the room and under the tree. This was so easy. And here they had been putting one present under the tree at a time! “Wow!” Puffy cried, “Look at the presents! They’re just floating in the air!” In no time at all the presents were under the tree and the kittens were on their way to the next house. All over the world they flew. They went to homes in Mexico, China, Canada, and even to France and Germany. When they were peacefully fly ing through the air on their way to Sweden, Santa quietly said to the kittens, “This is the last stop before home. I hope you enjoyed your first trip around the world.” “Oh, yes, Santa!” the kittens cried. “It was great fun!” “Well my kittens, you have helped me a great deal. You’ve left presents for children all over the world and well, I was wondering what you want for Christmas.” “Well Santa,” Puffy began, “I really want to have a family. Do you know what I mean? I want to have a little boy or girl to look after me and love me.” “Me too,” Fluffy said sleepily. “I understand.” Santa knew exactly what he was going to get each of the kittens. “You Christ mas kittens really should get some sleep before we get to Sweden”. But Santa didn’t need to finish his sentence because as soon as he mentioned the word sleep, the kittens dozed off. Very shortly after, Santa arrived in Sweden. As he tried to stop the reindeer quietly, Santa picked up the two sleeping kittens in his arms, clicked his heels together, and magically appeared in the small home of a little boy and girl. Trying not to wake the curled up kittens, he placed them under the tree. He kissed each of them on the cheek, stood up, tapped his heels together and disappeared into the night. The next morniing Puffy was the first to awake. “Fluffy, wake up!” he cried excitedly, “I had the strangest dream!” But then he saw that he was not in his familiar cage at the pet store, but in a strange home under a Christmas tree. “I had a strange dream, too.” Fluffy stretched her legs. She too then noticed that she was in a strange place. “Maybe it wasn’t a dream.” “Santa must have put us here when we were sleeping,” Puffy said thoughtfully. Together the kittens whispered “Thank You Santa”. And in the small room Santa’s voice could clearly be heard, “You’re very welcome, my cute little Christmas kittens.” And every Christmas after that the kittens left a special treat and a thank you note for Santa, after all, Christmas to them is about giving, not getting. How the Deer Saved Christmas Done by Steve Machan Grade 5, Brussels. Once upon a time there was a deer named Silvertail. He always asked Santa if he could help on Christmas, but Santa always said no. Two days before Christmas Ru dolph got very sick. Santa went to call on Silvertail but he wasn’t there. He was on vacation in Florida. Santa got in his sled, but, without Rudolph it wouldn’t go. Santa ran to his magic bike and biked as hard as he could for Florida. Sure enough, there, sitting on the beach was Silvertail. When they got back, Santa hitched up the reindeer to his sled and away they went. Silvertail had saved Christmas. The End. Christmas is here, along with our good wishes for a happy, healthy holiday. Our sincere thanks to all.
