Owing to anniversary services in
Monkton Presbyterian Church
there will be no service in Knox
Church, Cranbrook, October 29.
W.M.S. CONFERENCE
The Fall Conference of the
Stratford-Huron Presbyterial of the
W.M.S. was held in Knox Church,
Cranbrook, on Friday, October 20,
with a morning and afternoon
session.
Approximately 60 registered
from 9:30 -10 a.m. with Mrs. Leslie
Knight and Mrs. Murray Crawford
in charge. Yvonne Knight and Julie
Mitchell led in a hymn-sing at both
sessions with Mrs. Stewart Steiss
as the pianist.
Words of welcome were given
by the minister, Rev. Steve Webb
and greetings from Presbytery
from Rev. Roger McEachern of
Shakespeare. The W.M.S. presi
dent, Mrs. Stuart Stevenson exten
ded a welcome to all.
Rev. Lucie Milne and Jean
Edmunds gave an interesting
sketch of the background “The
Philippines’’. All partook of a box
lunch in the basement with cookies
and beverage supplied by Cran
brook.
In the afternoon devotions were
led by Avonton and special music
was provided by Monkton. The
guest speaker, Barbara Woodruff
talked on “The World of Islam’’
providing information on the new
study. Offering was received by
Laura Strickler and Brenda Perrie
and dedicated by Eleanor Steven
son. The meeting ended with a
social time in the basement over
coffee, tea and cookies.
W.I. MEETING
The October meeting of the W.I.
was a work session. The members
worked on photocopying several of
the Tweedsmuir history books sort
ing pictures, and bringing some of
the information up to date. This
proved to be an interesting and at
times amusing job even if it did
involve quite a lot of plain hard
work. When a copy is finally put in
the library it is to be hoped that
many will check to see if their
relatives are there, and on the
right page.

Our goof
In a cutline in last week’s Citizen
we incorrectly identified a long
time member of the Huron Pioneer
Thresher Association. The presen
ter of the trophy for best gas engine
from the 1930 to 1950 period was
John Ellacott, presenting the tro
phy that bears his name. The
Citizen regrets this error.
THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1989. PAGE 25.
The meeting was opened with the
4H pledge. The minutes of the last
meeting were read and a cover
design was chosen.
The roll call was answered.
Guest speakers from St. John’s
Ambulance were introduced: Deb
bie Trollope and Betty Graber told
what to do in several
emergency situations. They told
members the most important thing
to do was to remain calm and not
panic. Members all practised posi
tioning an unconscious person. The

in Blyth United Church last week. The ladies are residents of

guests helped members through
the exercises in the pamphlet for
