Phone 523-4360 Londesboro UCW hears about trip to China The October meeting of Londes­ boro U.C.W. was held at the church on Monday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. Betty Millar opened the meeting with a Thanksgiving Prayer. Reta Kelland read the scripture, Psalm 30. Norma Giousher read a poem, “Autumn”. Reta Kelland introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Joyce Doig of Seaforth, Emergency Supervisor at Clinton Public Hospital. She was the only nurse from Ontario to be picked to go to China for the Infection Control Delegation. They stayed there 16 days. She spoke and showed slides of her visit. This Council for the Blind holds turkey dinner The Bluewater Chapter of the Canadian Council for the Blind met on Tuesday evening, October 17 in Wesley Willis United Church for their annual Thanksgiving turkey dinner. The evening opened with singing of O Canada and Grace. The dinner was served by the United Church Women. They were thanked by Mr. Jim Reddick. A sing-song followed accompanied by Reta Crittenden on the piano. Ken Lingelback read a Thanks­ giving poem. Business meeting began by the calling of the Roll with 38 members and escorts present. The minutes and treasur­ er’s report were read. Last meeting of the season will be November 21 at Huron Day Centre at 8 p.m. November 25 is the Christmas dinner at Seaforth Legion Hall. On October 1 Mrs. June Foran report­ ed she was in the Walk-a-thon in Goderich and raised $426.00 in donations to go to Oakville Canine Vision of Canada. The walk was sponsored by the local Lions Club. The rest of the evening was Guest soloist at United Church Greeter at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, Oct. 22 were Bob and Audrey Thompson. Ush­ ers were Denise Hulley, Kerry Szusz, Paul Jewitt and Brent Radford. Guest soloist Gloria Wilbee of Walton sang two pieces, “The Gifts of God’’ and “Learning to Lean’’. The sermon topic was “The Love of God in us.’’ Bible Study and Prayer Group will meet this Friday, Oct. 27 at 1:15 p.m. at the Snihurs. There will be a congregational meeting after church next Sunday to select a Pastoral Relations Committee. The first confirmation class is schedul­ ed for Saturday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at the church. The junior and senior youth groups meet this Thursday, Oct. 26 at the church from 7 - 9 p.m. for a crokinole tournament. People A new group, After Supper Kids is being formed. It will meet once a month and is for both boys and girls grades 3 to 6. Mrs. Joe Flynn and children of Varna visited on Sunday with Mrs. Jean Scott. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Krauter and family were in attendance at Marie’s parents’ 50th anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Douglas of Atwood on Saturday, October 21. wasvj&s very interesting. She thanked by Betty Millar. President Mary Peel took over the business part of the meeting. Bernice Norman read the minutes of the September meeting. These were approved as read. A thank you note was read from the Dumin Family. Kitty McGregor read the financial report. Collection and birthday pennies were taken up. Clara Riley thanked everyone who brought cookies and squares for anniversary lunches. The Christ­ mas meeting is on Monday, Dec. 4. The meeting closed with the Benediction. Lunch was served by Florence Snell, Shirley Lyon, Helen Lawson and Audrey Thompson. spent playing Bingo with everyone having a good time. On October 10 about 20 members and escorts of the Bluewater Chap­ ter attended the Geritol Follies at the Centre in the Square, Kitchen­ er. Everyone agreed it was a very enjoyable and most entertaining evening. by Cheri Kryzanowski On October 16 the 20 members of the Auburn Food Phantoms took the mystery out of microwaving. At 4:30, the members opened the meeting with the 4H pledge and continued with the reading of the minutes and roll call. PRE-SCHOOL HOUR by Lyndsey-Dawn Salverda On Monday, Oct. 17 Mrs. Black held a Pre-school story hour. The stories told were about balloons. The next story hour will be held on October 30. A story teller will be coming. If any other kids would like to come it is at 1 p.m. It’s held every other Monday for ages 3 to 4. P. D. DAY by Paula Allen On Monday, October 23, school had a P.D. Day and teachers visited five different high schools in the area. On Wednes­ day, October 25 the high schools are having a P.D. day and those our our Bakker, members discussed all aspects of microwave cooking, including the parts of a microwave, wattage, power levels, and hot spots. They then did a number of activities, including a true or false quiz, a word scramble, and a matching quiz. With the end of the club nearing, Pre-school story hour held teachers will be visiting elementary schools, including ours. CROSS COUNTRY by Michael de Jong Cross Country was postponed until Tuesday, October 24 due to nasty weather. SAFETY WEEK by Michael de Jong On Monday and Tuesday, grades kindergarten to grade eight went Londesboro Lions plan Halloween party At the October 19 meeting of the Londesboro Lions their upcoming events were discussed. This year a special welcome is extended to everyone to come and see the children’s costumes and Halloween posters being judged at the Londesboro Hall between six and seven p.m. members discussed plans for meet­ ing six, in which each club member is invited to bring one of her parents to a meal prepared com­ pletely by the members. This meeting was held on October 23, at the Knox United Church. Meeting 4 was topped off with the prepara­ tion of “Smors”. The meeting was closed with the 4H motto. into the gym to see films about Safety. On Monday it was about playing safe and safety around machinery, trains and construction places. On Wednesday everyone got a booklet about Farm Safety. GRADE 2 - 3 Mrs. Hoemig’s grade 2-3 class are using pumpkins in their math activities. The euchre tournament will be held November 17 at 8 p.m. sharp. Tickets are available from any Lions member. A motion to support the Partici­ pation Lodge was passed. The 25,000 Lucky Lodge Lottery tickets are now available. Draw to be conducted Saturday, Dec. 16/89 live on CKNX-TV at 7 p.m.
