Belgrave hosts UCW rally A community shower was held in the Belgrave Women’s Institute Hall to honour Andrea Coultes prior to her marriage to Scott Stevenson, both of Belgrave. Mrs. Linda Hopper welcomed everyone and Mrs. Sylvia Procter entertained with two piano num­ bers. Mrs. Wilma Higgins gave two readings after which Andrea was asked to join in on a mock wedding ceremony. Mrs. Hopper acted as the mini­ ster, Alison Coultes was the groom. Joanne Chapman was the brides- ‘Micro Maniacs’ elect officers BY JULIE ELSTON The first meeting of Good Foods Fast in Belgrave was held on Monday, September 25 in the Women’s Institute Hall with eight members present. The meeting started after the members said the 4H pledge. They decided their club would be called the “Micro Maniacs’’. Then the officers were elected: President, Carol Hopper; Vice- President, Jayne Vincent; Secret­ ary, Ann Gamiss; and Press Re­ porter, Julie Elston. The members then discussed one situation when their family needed to prepare a meal in a hurry. Then they discussed what they usually ate for each meal. Then they discussed whether each member liked breakfast. The answer was “yes’’. Members made apple cinnamon muffins. They were ready at the end of the meeting. They were really good. Members discussed “Breakfast Champions” and some good break­ fast choices. Each member wrote down three other nutritious break­ fasts. They read about “Cereal Sense” and “How Much Sugar and Fibre are in Your Favourite Cereals” and “Snack Attacks”. They also did a snacking survey. Did you know that in 1988 girls spent approximately $5 a week away from home and boys spent $8.50 a week. People should pack a snack instead of buying a snack. They then read “The Snappy Snack Alternatives Chart”, and discussed the Home Activity. They ended the meeting with the 4H motto. The second meeting of Good Foods Fast in Belgrave was held on Monday, October 2 in the Women’s Belgrave people Mr. and Mrs. Tibor Oravec and Kristian of Stratford were Sunday guests with Mrs. Mabel Wheeler. Rev. and Mrs. Erroll Shilliday of Victoria, B.C. were recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pletch. Rev. and Mrs. John G. Roberts returned home recently after spending a month in England and Wales visiting with relatives and friends. Alicia Makas, London, spent the weekend with Mrs. Mabel Wheel­ er. Miss Edna Henshaw of New Westminster, B.C. returned to her home Tuesday, October 17 after spending two weeks visiting with her cousins in the Wingham and Belgrave area. maid, Karen Cook was the father of the bride and Meribeth Scott was the mother of the bride. Mrs. Hopper then read an ad­ dress to Andrea and asked Andrea and her mother Mrs. Muriel Coul­ tes and Scott’s mother, Mrs. Shirley La Fortune of Ganges, B.C. to help open the gifts. Andrea thanked everyone present and a social time followed. A girl friend’s shower was also held prior to her marriage at the home of Meribeth Scott followed by a dinner in Kincardine. Institute Hall with nine members present. The Micro Maniacs started their meeting as usual with the 4H pledge. Then they read over the information for that meeting. After that they made three different kinds of macaroni and cheese and judged each kind. Kraft macaroni and cheese won first place. They did true and false questions and read over the rest of that meetings information. They then discussed the home activities and roll call. The meeting ended with the 4-H motto. J FRESH! The North Huron Regional Rally was hosted by Knox United Church, Belbrave, Thursday even­ ing, October 19. President Mrs. Marilyn Elgie, Wroxeter, conduct­ ed the meeting. Mrs. Robert Grasby and Mrs. Mabel Wheeler were in charge of registration. The attendants of 68 enjoyed a prelude of organ and piano music with Mrs. George Procter and Mrs. Leslie Shaw. Insurance agent speaks to 4-H club The fourth meeting of the Bel­ grave Safety Energizers was held October 18 at the home of Mrs. Ruth Gordon. Six members an­ swered the roll call which was “What different types of insurance could your family purchase?” Doug Sholdice of Brussels, an insurance agent, spoke to us on various types of insurance. He said marine insurance was the oldest type of insurance. In 1666 the Great Fire in London, England inspired the first fire insurance. Life insur­ ance policies were issued about the same time. Members did examples on how crop insurance was calcu­ lated also how a claim was figured out. Doug also explained the new Ontario Motorist Protection Plan which is expected to be implement­ ed in 1990. He stressed the importance of Driver Education not only for one’s own good, but also because premiums are substan­ tially reduced. Jennifer Elston thanked Doug for his informative talk. Members then reviewed the information in the member’s pamphlet. They closed Mrs. Ross Higgins welcomed the gathering to Knox United and greetings were brought from Hur­ on-Perth Presbyterial by president Mrs. Helen Anderson, Tavistock. Guest soloist was Ian Morton accompanied by his mother Mrs. Judy Morton. Fellowship lunch and the book display was enjoyed during the break. The speaker for the evening was the meeting by repeating the 4H motto. Hall, Belgrave, Wed­ nesday, October 18. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Edgar Wightman; low lady, Mrs. Eva McGill; most lone hands, lady, Mrs. Lloyd Appleby; second high lady, Mrs. Agnes Gaunt; high man, Lloyd Appleby; low man, Albert Cook; most lone hands, man, Jack Taylor; second high man, Mrs. Marie Merkley (playing as a man).
