Zone Commander visits Legion Brussels People By Bonnie Gropp Phone 887-9114 or 523-4792 Sheila Richards and a friend, Grace Stewart of Burlington, have recently returned from a Trafalgar tour to Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The group was made up of Canadians, Americans and Aus­ tralians. The highlight was seeing the Jungfrau clearly on a sunny day. There was a fresh snow everywhere and the village of Zermatt nestled in the valley looked like a Christ­ mas card. The Matterhorn and Mount Blanc were also visible when visited. A Rhine boat cruise and visits to Salzburg, Innsbruck, Lucerne, Lau­ sanne, Bad Orb and the Black Forest were also included in the itinerary. Kim Smith of Thomas Street was a recent winner in the “Sing for your Supper’’ contest sponsored by CKNX Radio Station. Kim’s guests were her mother Mrs. Stella Smith and Cathy and Bob Cochrane. Jim Moore, Matt Miller and Gary Ballagh were present from ‘the station. It was also a very special occasion for Stella as her first grandchild, Miranda, born to Brian November 20. Nelson and Myrtle Sleightholm of RR 3, Brussels celebrated 40 years of married life at a party hosted by family and friends at their home on Saturday, Oct. 14. Sue Wilson and Gwen Raymond visited with Joan Cardiff this past weekend in London. Mrs. Margaret Lindner of Waterloo has purchased the former home of Mrs. Margaret Baechler, 679 John St. South, Brussels. There were nine tables in play at the Oddfellow Rebekah euchre. Prize winners were: door prize, Garner Nicholson; ladies’ high, Mary Clark; ladies’ low, Glenna Stephens; men’s high, Alf Nichol; men’s low, Freda Pipe; lone hands, Mary Lowe. The next euchre will be held BY ISABEL JANES The District C Convention was held in Owen Sound on October 15. There were four members from Brussels branch in attendance. Zone Commander John McDon­ ald paid his annual visit to the Brussels branch on October 16. He attended the general meeting along with Deputy Zone Commander Ed Pyette and Zone Secretary June Pyette. Plans were finalized for Novem­ ber 11. There will be a Remem­ brance Day service held at the cenotaph at 10:30 a.m. Following this, there is a service at the 4H meets BY LORIE JAMIESON The third meeting of the Brus­ sels I club met on October 2 at the home of Kathy Bridge with all members present. Members opened the meeting with the 4H club pledge, then they picked partners to help cook pizza style frittata which everyone enjoy­ ed. Then they sampled three kinds of pudding: instant, scratch and pudding cup. At 8:15 we closed the meeting with the motto. BY SANDRA BRIDGE On October 16 the Brussels I club met at Peggy Keffer’s with all members present. President Tricia Duskocy opened the meeting. The members answered the roll call on where they have used a microwave oven. They learned the different parts of the microwave and the power levels. There was an I.Q. test on microwave cooking. Then they learned about the ar­ rangements of foods in a micro- ave. The treat of the night was s’mores which everyone enjoyed. Presbyterian Church. The banquet will be held at the Legion hall at 7 p.m. with a social time to follow. Motions were made and passed to donate $350 to the Santa Claus Parade, $250 to the Brussels Girl Guides and $250 to the Brussels Brownies. The Child Video Program, spon­ sored by the Royal Canadian Legion branches, began taping the students of local schools on Mon­ day, October 16. Students of Grey Central School were taped on , Monday, October 16. Students of Brussels Public School were taped on Tuesday, October 17 and stu­ dents of Walton Public School were taped on Friday, October 20.
