Phone 52b-75db Popps celebrate 35th Lome and Evelyn Popp of Blyth celebrated their 35th wedding anni­ versary with a family dinner. They were married on October 9, 1954 at the home of the bride’s parents Meredith and Mary Young of Goderich. The attendants were the bride’s sister Marjorie Treble and the groom’s brother Murray Popp, the winsome flower girl was Anne (Caldwell) Cottel and the organist was Lillian Hallam sister of the groom. They have a family of seven - Douglas of Drayton, Dianne 4H samples convenience foods by Chert Kryzanowski On Monday, September 23, the second meeting of the Auburn Good Foods Fast Club was held at 4:15 in the basement of Auburn Missionary Church. At this meeting, which 23 atten­ ded, members took a look at convenience foods. The meeting was opened with the 4H pledge. Each of the members then sampled three different kinds of macaroni and cheese: Kraft Dinner, no-name brand, and homemade. The mem­ bers and leaders then read through the meeting and talked about convenience foods, best before dates, shopping skills, and the best Rev. Kathi Urbasik Hindley preaches Knox sermon Rev. Dave Snihur conducted the anniversary service at Knox United Church and Nancy Park was organ­ ist. Call to Worship was read alter­ nately followed by the hymn “Joy­ ful, Joyful We Adore Thee”. Rev. Snihur gave the Prayer of Ap­ proach followed by the New Creed in unison. Guest soloists Coby and Irvin Amoraal shared in song. The hymn “Bringing in the Sheaves” was sung followed by the prayer chorus “My Jesus I Love Thee”. Rev. Kathi Urbasik - Hindley read the scriptures from Isaiah and John. On Monday, October 2 at 4:15 the third meeting of the Auburn Good Foods Fast club was held at the Auburn Missionary Church. At this meeting, 21 attended, the theme was ‘‘Make it Snappy”. The meeting was opened with the 4H pledge. Members then discussed meal planning and freezing foods. Each member then tasted the Fast Fixing salad with Thousand Island dressing and biscuits, made by some of the members in the club. The meeting closed with the 4H motto. Meeting four was held Monday, October 16. shared in songs. Rev. Kathi Urbasik Hindley’s sermon was entitled “How can a Church survive the Ups and Downs”. The offering was received by Murray Rollinson and Lawrence Plaetzer and dedicated. “The Church’s One Foundation” was sung. Rev. Kathi Urbasik -Hindley pronounced the Benediction and Benediction Response “Go now in Peace” ended the service. Bible Study will be at the home of Don and Lois Haines on Friday, October 20 at 1:15 p.m. Huronview Fellowship time will be Thursday, October 19 at 1:15 and will be held at the chapel. by Cheri Kryzanowski Meeting three of the Auburn “Home and Farm Safety” club was held on October 3 at 7 p.m. at the home of Shirley Archambault. The meeting was opened with the 4H pledge. At this meeting the members learned about fire from two local firefighters, Mr. Josling and Mr. Burkholder. They taught us how to use fire extinguishers, the three classes of fires and what to do in case of a fire. On Tuesday, October 10 at 7 p.m. the fourth 4H meeting of Home and Farm Safety was held at the home of Regina Campbell. The meeting was opened with the 4H Pledge. At this meeting, two local insurance brokers of Lyons and Mulhern Insurance Bro­ kers, in Goderich taught about the different kinds of insurance, in­ cluding liability, life, auto, crop and workers’ compensation. Members also filled out sample auto insurance forms and a crop insurance form. Thank you was expressed to the two insurance brokers who helped us to learn about insurance. Meeting five was held on Tuesday, October 17. Community holds euchre parties The euchre party was held on Tuesday, October 10 at the Com­ munity Hall. High lady was Jane Giousher; low lady, Lois Haines; high man, Harold McClinchey; low man, Ed Daer; novelty, Nancy Slater. She welcomed all to the meeting. Special guests at this meeting were Rev. Nicholson and Mrs. Nicholson of Goderich. The service of Thanksgiving was followed from the Glad Tidings which included hymns, prayers, scripture readings and prayers. The scripture pass­ ages were read by Martha Daer, Lillian Letherland and Erma Cart­ wright. Rev. Nicholson gave an inspiring talk on Christianity is Thanksgiv­ ing. Call 263-2619 Amnesty International focuses on children The focus is on violation of human rights of children during Amnesty Internatnional Week, October 16 - 22. Amnesty International is a world wide human rights group serving this area through a group-in-forma- tion which meets in Goderich usually on the fourth Monday. The meeting this month will be on October 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the board room of the assessment office, Goderich, next to the Histor­ ic Jail. Prospective members and inter- ested persons are welcome at this meeting which will feature a 20- minute video “Colours of Hope”. Activities in southern Ontario this fall include a regional meeting in Waterloo October 27 and a rally in Toronto on November 4, the latter focusing on the death penalty which Amnesty International is opposed to by policy.
