Wawanosh home park turned down Our goof A decision was made by East Wawanosh Council at its October 3 meeting concerning the recom mendation to re-zone Part Lots 34 and 35 on Con. 14 from Natural Environment to Recreational for the purpose of turning the area into a trailer park. More than 50 farmers who would be affected by the proposal voiced their opposition at a public meeting in August. The County of Huron Planning and Development Department in formed Council through a report by County Planner Cindy Fisher that the establishing of a recreational park in the middle of an agricul tural area is “contradictory to agricultural protection, flexibility and priority.” After further discus sion Council agreed that it had little choice in view of this report and public opinion to turn down the re-zoning amendment. A public meeting was held earlier tin the evening to discuss an amendment to zoning concerning a parcel of land created by a roadway to the lagoon by the Wingham Sewdge Works. There were no objections stated at that meeting so Council passed a by-law for the amendment at its regular meeting. Council accepted four zoning amendment applications: for Part Lot 30. Six members answered the roll call which was the phone number of your local Fire Department. Doug Sholdice, a volunteer of Brussels Fire Department, talked about some of the leading causes of fire, the four classes of fire, the three elements that make a fire burn and how to use a fire extinguisher. After Doug answered many of the questions, the mem bers went outside and practised using a fire extinguisher. Carol Hopper thanked Doug for his informative talk. It was fitting that Doug could join the group as this was fire prevention week. The leaders then went over the questions in the members pam phlet. The meeting closed with the 4H motto. Some safety tips discussed were: Never refuel engines while the engine is hot; Never smoke in the barn or you could become a dot; Smother a fire to remove the air or cool with water if you care; Shut off the fuel to put out a fire An extinguisher in hand if you desire. Belgrave people Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vincent have returned from visiting over Thanksgiving with Don and Carol Vincent, Patrick, Angela and Aaron at Prosser Brook, New Brunswick. During their trip down through Eastern Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick and their return through Maine, New Hampshire and Ver mont, the coloured leaves were at their height of beauty. On Thanksgiving Day, they went up the “Dobson Trail”, which is adjacent to Don’s and Carol’s property and climbed to the “Hay ward Pinnacle”, from which they viewed the wooded surrounding hills ablaze with the autumn glory of hardwood forests. From the pinnacle they were able to see in the distance the buildings of Monc ton, N.B. twenty-five miles away. sources; for Part Lot 42, Cone. 14, which is owned by Wingham Pentecostal Church, changing it from institutional to village resi dential; for Part Lot 30, Cone. 11, owned by Carmen Denton, chang ing it from agricultural and natural environment one to natural en vironment one and four; and for Part Lot 42, Cone. 9, owned by A. Council had receiv ed complaints from area residents about the number of dogs owned by the Masons. Mrs. Mason explained that according to a by-law which states a kennel is for breeding, selling and boarding dogs, she is not operating a kennel, as her dogs were purchased with no breeding rights. She also stated that her show dogs - three purebred Schnauzers and two poodles - were not permitted to run at large and do no bark more than any of the many other dogs in the vicinity. Clerk-Treasurer Winona Thomp son was instructed by Council to inquire with Al Ostner, the Town ship’s lawyer, on stipulations for the number of dogs for each property before making its deci sion. A building permit was issued to Brenda Mason for a double car garage and workshop at Lot 20, Plan 500. A cutline under a picture in last week’s paper incorrectly stated that the Belgrave supper was held in the Institute Hall. It should have said the Belgrave Arena. Also, the proceeds go to the Community Centre Board not the Women’s Institute.
